Growth poles, regional growth axes and regional planning in Galicia, Spain

Auteur :
O'FLANAGAN, P.

Description :
Unplanned rather than planned changes are moulding the leading dimensions of a newly emerging socio-economic framework in Spain. Galicia has been singled out as a special problem region and a testing ground for specific planning policies which have been devised to redress the difficulties of the region. Since 1964 various policies have been implemented but few of the objectives of these plans have been accomplished. These diverse policies are critically reviewed in relation to a major new initiative to implant an articulated metropolitan-industrial axis as a general palliative to rid the region of its malaise.
