Hierarchy of centres: some notes on a concept

Auteur :
MEULEN, T. van der

Description :
Subject of this paper is the hierarchy of centres. The supposed distribution of establishments among the settlements in case of a hierarchical structure implies that a centre of higher order has all types of establishments of lower order. Thus, the centres can be scored on an ordinal scale if an exploration is directed to verify the various ideas about reality (and implicitly all descriptive research aims to do this), the results cannot be validated. Following K. R. Popper, the only way of obtaining insight in reality is to test (falsifiable) conjectures about reality (theories, explanation).
