The subject of the study are the characteristics of the vegetation in the Llanos of the Orinocco and their dependance on the geomorphological and ecological conditions. Apart from discussing the problem whether the savannahs are the original vegetation of the area concerned the study deals with the consequences of insufficient ventilation of the hydromorphic soils of the Llanos Bajos as well as with the reasons for the limited availability of soil water for the vegetation on the Mesas of the Llanos Altos.
