Land conversion and urban growth: Canada 1966-1971

Auteur :
PIERCE, J. T.

Description :
Unlike traditional studies of urban growth involving the use of demographic and economic variables, this study attempts to measure the growth of cities in terms of land use consumption. The paper extends previous research into the relationship between urban physical structure and population size through an empirical analysis of the variation in the quantity and intensity of land consumed with respect to population change. The data for the analysis were collected from seventeen Canadian cities ranging in population size from 50,000 to 2,000,000.
