Telefoonverkeer en economische structuur in Nederland. Een toepassing van de veldtheorie.. (Telephone traffic and economic structure in the Netherlands. An application of the field theory)

DIETVORST, A. G. J.

Description :
Two questions are central in this research: what kind of pattern is formed by the information-exchange (in this case telephone traffic) in the Netherlands and how has this developed in the period 1967-1975? How is this pattern of information-exchange related to the economic structure. With regard to the theoretical and conceptual framework the author uses Berry's geographical field theory and theories concerning the connection between communication pattern and the spatial diffrentiation of economic structure. The communication pattern is analysed by graph theory and Markov chains. The economic structure by PCA-analysis. The interdependence between communication pattern and economic structure is demonstrated by a series of multiple regression equations. In particular the independent variables with a service character explained the greatest proportion of the total variance of the dependent variable (the mean first passage of the Markov chain analysis). (AGD).
