Description :
Partially high quantities of CO occurring in gas pools of the Stassfurt carbonate must be attributed to the Miocene or Pliocene basaltic volcanism, when deep-seated fault systems due to fracturing were active as ascending paths. The CO distribution permits to make statements on the migration and accumulation, whose controlling factors were young movements by which the basaltic volcanism was released and structure-forming effects were produced. They superimosed already preexisting hydrocarbon palaeodeposits and resulted in mobilizing, redistributing and newly accumulating hydrocarbons, this time, however, with the participation of quantities of CO ascended from the depth and being also in a process of migration.
