Palaeoclimatic inferences from Loch Lomond Advance glaciers in Studies in the Lateglacial of North-West Europe.

Equilibrium firn line altitudes and relative dimensions of Loch Lomond Advance glaciers in Scotland and the Lake District indicate that snowfall was associated mainly with S to SE air streams preceding warm and occluded fronts, although SW air streams were more common. Precipitation was high in the western Grampians and in much of the ground West of the Great Glen but relatively law in the NW Highlands and very low in the NW Cairngorms and Speyside. This pattern is related to many depressions having followed tracks far to the South of those prevailing today, this in turn being related to the position of the oceanic polar front. The stadial evidence leads to a suggestion about the nature of ice-sheet growth.
