Centrale plaatsen theorieën en ruimtelijk koopgedrag. Een theoretische verkenning en een aanzet voor de formulering en toetsing van een alternatieve theorie.. (Central place theories and spatial aspects of shopping behaviour. A theoretical exploration and an alternative theory)

Description :
The principal aim of this study is to evaluate existing central place theories and to formulate and test an alternative theory for understanding the locational patterns and the functional complexity of settlements in well-developped urban systems. The classical central place theories and their recent modifications are critically assessed. The second part of this study concerns the derivation and the testing of the alternative theory. This theory involves the tracing of the effects of the introduction of multi-purpose trips on both the functional hierarchical and the spatial component of a system of central places. Data on the presence of 57 retailing functions in 842 Dutch municipalities were gathered for respectively 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1974 for empirical verification. (AGD).
