The idea of the measurements is to insert limestone tablets of known weight and dimensions into water of known quality for a definite period of time| and from these tablets to determine the speed of dissolution of the limestone in water, as also the principal agents of dissolution. The experiment is being conducted in a Belgian river with tablets taken from three quarries in Southern Belgium. The paper will show the evidence for the prime role played by the speed of flow of the water and its acidity| significant variations between tablets of different petrographical facies are also apparent.
