The subject of the contribution is an unresolved problem of migration research, namely the interdependence of mobility and integration among ethnic minorities. The empirical data comprise the foreign residents of the town of Mühlheim am Main between 1969 and 1973. Migrational fluctuations in this town clearly show the influence of foreign workers in socio-demographic processes in the place of residence. Besides a labour-market-orientated inter-regional mobility current accomodation requirements constitute the main motive for changing the place of residence within the region. While the proportion of inter-regional migrants in Mühlheim is of secondary importance for the structural change, regional migrants result in the foreign share in the younger and youngest sections of the population being disproportionateley large and in the crowding out of German workers on the labour market, in conjunction with pronounced social mobility.
