Description :
The term Polar desert is being discussed. An examination of the basic factors like climate, vegetation, weathering and erosial processes shows a distinct aridity in different parts of the polar zones. In the field of human geography there are also some important features, typical of deserts, as for instance specific distribution of population, socioeconomic structures and economic revenues. Summing up, the polar zones are not deserts in the whole but within these zones there exist local deserts in the proper geographical sense. (l'A.).
