The greatest part of magnetic and gravity anomalies originate from the rocks of ante-Permian basement. Numerous studies of the outcrops of this basement in Odenwald and Schwarzwald (Germany) and in Vosges, Morvan, and in a part of the Massif Central (France) permitted the authors to identify the geological and geophysical structures which were responsible for these anomalies. A concise and interpretative map extrapolates the informations obtained to the whole variscan range in Eastern France and Southern Germany.
