Despite a central position between the world harbours Rotterdam and Antwerpen, industrial activity in the province of Zeeland remained of minor importance until the fifties. Since 1960 however, the petrochemical industries dit start industrialisation. In this article, the authors give a sketch of the structural changes in the spatial patterns as a consequence of the arrival of the petrochemical complexes. (AGD).
