In the first part the authors, basing on the criterion of the relationship to the theory, have differentiated three research trends in modern transport geography, namely the idiographic, explanatory and systematizing trends. In the second part have outlined problems confronting model studies, which play a substitutive role in relation to the theory of a higher degree of generalization. They have discussed: 1the topological analysis of the spatial structure of a network| 2eigenvalues and eigenvectors| 3problems of the spatial structure of ideal and real world networks| 4models of the development of networks| 5simulation modelling of networks| 6gravity models| 7optimization models and problems of linear and dynamic programming in particular.
