Un type particulier de dépôt de pente quaternaire: les grèzes litées calcaires de Lorraine (Nord-Est de la France)

Auteur :
MICHEL, J. P.

Description :
Quaternary grèzes litées made of Jurassic limestone clasts are common features at the foot of valley-slopes in Northeastern France. They include granules (mean length=1cm) of angular or slightly calcareous clasts| their formation due to gelifraction has depended on the cohesion of limestone towards frost-weathering and the frequency of freeze-thaw cycles of cold periglacial Pleistocene stages. Their deposition is related to snow melt and other phenomena. During the Riss-Würm interglacial period and during the Würmian interstages, brown-red peleosols were formed| many periglacial phenomena (frost cracks, plications, involutions, solifluction) have disturbed the stratification mainly during the upper Würm. A comparison is drawn with the chalky bedded rock-fragments of the Champagne region.
