Description :
The investigation, using factor analysis (PCA), bears on maximum and minimum daily temperatures recorded over three summers and four winters at some fifteen stations located in the central Middle Atlas and its surroundings (Morocco). An attempt is made to explain the classification of temperatures through the general features of the atmospheric circulation, the regional orientation of air flow and the thermodynamic structure of the air mass as determined by the Casablanca sounding the two latter features account for the varying geography of daily temperatures. Temperature gradients between mountain and foreland are low under anticyclonic summer conditions, and even inverted. They are high in disturbed ones, while contrast between east and west are reinforced.
