Description :
C. r. par Ju. Karagjuleva, Abstr. Bulg. scient. Lit., 1976-2, n 158: in the Fore-Balkan the valley is of antecedent-epigenetic character. One of the most characteristic elements of its evolution and morphology is the high river terrace, formed during the Plio-Pleistocene, which in some places assumes the character of a river terrace level. It is an evidence of a period of relative tectonic peace accompanied by considerable development of lateral erosion and accumulation processes. It was formed at the end of the Pliocene and in the beginning of the Quaternary. The absolute and relative altitudes of this level decrease gradually from south to north. There are also local longitudinal and transversal displacements. It is characteristic that the morphostratigraphic level along the Iskar River is about 40m to 80m higher than along some other rivers in the western and central Fore-Balkan.
