Part A of the book represents a detailed study on the colonial determinants of and forces behind urban and regional features, structures and processes. The more recent trends of urbanization are dealt with in Part B concentrating on demographic shifts and their interpretation, functional and socio-cultural linkages between urban and rural areas, and rural-urban migration. Part C first discusses significant urban problems, e. g. underemployment and unemployment, housing problems and the emergence of slums and uncontrolled squatter areas. The final Part D contains a description and critical analysis of Ghana's present regional and urban planning strategies and their prospects thereby including into the conception of evaluation not only the national level, but also economic and political factors at the international level.
