Description :
The geographical analysis of a given population's age structure, in this case that of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, is a powerful inductive-deductive tool in the task of establishing man-space relationships. A regional descriptive factorial model is obtained by braking down 16 age groups (eight feminine and eight masculine classes based on 1971 data) into four basis factors which were mapped by municipality. A systematic map synthesizes these four dimensions and shows that this regional age-structure typology is typical only of the most urbanized parts of the region but that marginal areas tend to deviate radically but not regularly from the model.
