Central in this investigation is the question what changes have occurred during the period 1967-1974 in the spatial pattern of information exchange in the Netherlands and how far this change is tending towards an increase in the interdependence of the regions that can be distinguished in the Netherlands. Use was made of the traffic data of the 21 district exchanges of the Dutch telephone network. The analysis was made with the aid of the graphs theory and of a number of characteristics of regular Markov chains (limiting vector, mean first passage time). (AGD).
