BACHLE W.,

Description :
This paper contains some specially selected portions of a more elaborate study on economic development of rural regions by means of tourism. An emphasis has been laid on the investigation of second homes in their effects on the development of rural areas. Second homes cause considerable problems as for the integration of urban dwellers in rural communities. They may contribute to a greater attraction of communities, to higher incomes and a better use of infra-structure necessarly should be not farther away than 100 or 150 km to ensure a frequent use, even when attended only at weekends. Planning authorities should select communities, which have already provided a part of the necessary infra-structure. Second homes must be planned in connection with other leisure-time activities, wich will be requested by a high percentage of the owners. (HSC).
