Evaluation of the mathematical modelling of the dispersion process based upon thermal studies. The presented models give satisfactory results when the velocities of heated discharge and water in the river are similar. Applicability depends mostly from the proper determination of the parameters describing the process (longitudinal and lateral mixing coefficients), by the dye Rodamine E. The values of the lateral and longitudinal mixing coefficients were compared for several stretches of the rivers. One saw that mixing processes take place slower with the decrease of the velocity gradients in the cross-section. (L'A).
