Maori land tenure: studies of a changing institution
Auteur :KAWHARU I. H.,
Description :
Although most of his land has been acquired by the Crown, the New Zealand colonists, and their successors, land is for the Maori still a subject of earnest debate, a rallying point for a pan-Maori-Nationalism, and even the basic of multi-million dollar enterprise. This study ranges over such topics as the relations between the Maori and the government in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the individualization of tribal title and its consequences, and the problems of adopting a complex agricultural technology. Its underlying concern the nature of the options open to Maori land-owning groups makes it relevant to an understanding of the processes of development operating in many Third World countries today.
