The heavy minerals of the alluvial plain of the present River Meuse can be divided into 4distinct associations: 1. Reworked minerals from the Vosges, characterizing the Meuse in France| 2. Chloritoid s. s. and Ardennes garnets, characterizing the Meuse in the Ardennes region| 3. Titanoaugite from the Ormont volcano with hypersthene and Mn-chloritoid, downstream from the confluent with the River Ourthe| and 4.A Rhine association with pyroxene-amphibole-saussurite found in the region of Venlo.
