Making histories and constructing human geographies : the local transformation of practice, power relations and consciousness.

Auteur :
PRED, A.

Description :
The A. argues that neither the study of history nor the execution of social or cultural analysis can be divorced from human-geographical inquiry. He contends that all processes of social structuring are dependent on context, for they involve the unfolding of historical geographies. Four studies of local transformation are presented to explain this discourse : growth of Boston between 1873 and 1982| impact of the factory on everyday life in American cities of the nineteenth century| emergence and aftermath of enclosures in Skane Province, Sweden| and the popular geography of the working class in fin-de-siècle Stockholm. - (DWG)
