The Balsas River Basin of southern Mexico has been an important center for the production of honey and vax from the semi-domesticated stingless bee (genera Melipona and Trigona). Now the European honeybee (Apis mellifera) is more widespread as the native bee each year diminishes in importance. - (DWG)
