Opening Panama's Darien gap in Festschrift to honor Raymond E. Crist.
Auteur :HERLIHY, P. H.
Description :
A highway built in the 1970s gave ready access to the Darien region for the first time, although it has not been completed to the Colombian border. Settlers have cut 12 % of the rainforest, removed the wildlife, and impinged on the native inhabitants. This led to the legal establishment of a homelands territory for the Choco Indians as well as to the Darien National Park which shelters 12 Indian villages. - (DWG)
