Longitudinal variations in the size and sorting of bed material along six arid-region mountain streams in Arid and semi-arid environments. Geomorphological and pedological aspects.

Auteur :
RHOADS, B. L.

Description :
The A. uses regression analysis to investigate downstream patterns in mean grain size and sorting of bed material along six small ephemeral streams in a mountain watershed. Mean grain size declines exponentially along four of the six streams. The high rates of decline reflect exceptionally rapid downstream changes in fluvial energy and sediment supply along these arid moutain streams. Mean grain size is significantly related to estimates of shear stress for all six streams, whereas the degree of sorting depends most strongly on the size of the bed material. Local variations in parent material also have significant influences on mean grain size and sorting within some of the streams.
