Ernst Plewe und das historische Element in der geographischen Wissenschaft Ernst Plewe et l'élément historique en géographie

Auteur :
LEIDLMAIR, A.

Description :
Ernst Plewe's life-work was primarily concerned with the history of geography. Most of his work was dedicated to this field being distinguished by diversity and linguistic elegance and throughout his life he considered himself a critic within the field of geography, as he himself said. In memory of him it was therefore only appropriate to reflect on the significance of the history of geography as we see it today. Its present importance is, in the author's opinion, based on the fact that it counteracts the loss of identity within German speaking geography. Cultivating the literary heritage reminds each of us of the responsibility of one's own generation in search of truth and progress. Furthermore this attitude helps us to obtain a critical assessment of one's point of view in the alternating and repetitive succession of old and new ideas.
