This article gives the full text of the Belgian contribution to the symposium of the IGU-Commission on Geographical Education ( Teaching geography in and about Asian Pacific Countries ), held in Hong Kong in August 1990. The research on this tropic fits into the framework of a broader research project on the value of lessons and tests in Belgian secondary education. The study is based on the curriculum, textbooks and school atlases, as well as on the test questions asked.
