The generalized Lowry model as input-output model for an urban system of Toyota city

Auteur :
YANO, K.

Description :
The Author evaluates the generalized Lowry model as an input-output model proposed by Macgill (1977) through its application to Toyota City. The main difficulty with operationalization is the virtual unavailability of a set of intersectoral input-output coefficients for the city being studied. Thus, in estimating the input-output coefficients for Toyota City, the RAS or biproportional technique, which is one of the partial survey techniques, is used to adjust the coefficients for Aichi prefecture. The results reveal the weakness of the economic base mechanism which Lowry used to construct a representation of production economics of urban areas. Moreover, this framework provides a basis for more comprehensive urban models.
