Slash-and-burn field cultivation in pre-modern Japan : with special reference to Shirakawa-go

Auteur :
MIZOGUCHI, T.

Description :
This study shows that slash-and-burn cultivation did increase from early Tokugawa (the 17th century) to the Meiji period (the late 19th century), contrarily to previous opinions. It shows also that the typical differentiation among peasants was not to be found in the slash-and-burn fields. - (SGA)
