Based on factual data the article proves that the Karakum canal is not the main cause of the Aral sea drying out. Its total water intake in 1956-1986 did not exced 15 % of the outflow necessary for limaintaining the average sea level of many years. The main cause of water quality worsening is waste waters, drainage outflow mainly. - (L'A.).
