Description :
The problem of working out an optimal complex of sand-stabilizing measures when constructing railways in sandy deserts is discussed. A number of factors such as nature and climatic conditions (sand stability, temperature-moisture regime of the area, ameliorative properties of the sand) and availability of material and technological resources in the area should be taken into consideration. Two conditions must be met simultaneously : the cost of sand stabilization must be as low as possible and its nature-protective effect as high as possible. The task can be solved by means of a model of linear programming where optimization of nature-protective and economic criterion is taken for the efficiency function. - (L'Ed.).
