From 1883 exact hypsometric maps of Alp glaciers were drawn which allow a geometric comparison with present maps. In the seventies of our century the first orthophotomaps of Alp glaciers were taken. The author gives a short description of the maps since 1883 by explaining problem, content and design of such topographical glacier maps. It is refered the numeric prove of changes at the glaciers by means of cartometric comparison. Finally, the possibilities of representation of changes in thematical maps are discussed.
