First of all, the authors deliver a survey about the town forming functions of the capital of GDR. It follows an explanation of profile and dynamics of the industries of the capital. After a historical review about the development of Berlin's industrial profile a characteristic of the present branche and production structure follows as well as assertions about the major lines of further development in connection with the utilization of specific site-fertiles of Berlin for the acceleration of scientific-technical progress. Finally, this paper delivers a survey about the industrial site structure within the capital including the suburb region.
