The Gongba conglomerates : glacial or tectonic? in Quaternary of the Karakoram and Himalaya.

Auteurs :
FORT, M.
DERBYSHIRE, E.

Description :
On the basis of the evidence found in the Thakkhola-Mustang graben, and by comparison with the adjacent, similar basins of Gyirong and Yagru Xongla, the A. suggests that the Gongba conglomerates are not the remains of an early glacial stage in south Tibet and north of the Himalayan Range. Rather, these conglomerate beds represent a direct sedimentary response both to the uplift of the Himalayan Range and to the extensional tectonics which have taken place since Plio-Pleistocene times and which are still going on in these areas.
