This paper focuses on Scotland and uses examples to illustrate the type of glacial problems which may be tackled through a more detailed reconstruction of the pre-glacial topography. There is discussion of typical reconstructed preglacial surfaces, the amount and spatial distribution of ice sheet erosion, the processes of land transformation and some implications with regard to ice sheet dynamics.
