Description :
On the South African south coast, transgressive dunefields are the dominant dune complex. The aerodynamics and sand transport of one small (1 m high) transverse dune were examined on a tabular dunefield. The point where sand movement is initiated moves upwind and downslope as wind velocities increase, sand transport rates are at a maximum on the mid to upper stoss slope, and flow saturation may be significant at high wind speeds. The implications for transverse dune equilibrium profile development is discussed.
