Desertification problems in the Somalia coastal zone south of Mogadiscio are related to moving coastal dunes and to bushcutting and overgrazing. In cooperation with an UNSO sand dune fixation project it has been evaluated to which extent satellite data might serve as a reasonable source of information relevant for the future efforts to combat desertification in the area.
